Problem with Dennis Carpenter Cab and Radiator Mounts.

First, I would like to say this is the only part (actually 2 parts) that I ever got from them that were not top notch, but these things suck!

First, the instructions for the cab mounts are not very clear, and not all of the numbers match. The kit includes four pair of rubber bushings. Two upper and 2 lower for each of the four cab mounts. The lower rear bushings are the ones that the numbers do not match the instructions. It also includes washers, four bolts and four sleeves for the center of the bushings.

The bolts and sleeves are not the same length (Two of each length) and the instructions do not show which go where. Based on the bushings I decided the shorter ones went in front. Nevertheless, even with the shorter ones in front they would not tighten on the bushings. Since I was not planning to do the rear cab mounts until I pull the bed, I used the larger bottom bushings and got them to tighten up.

The radiator support mounts also do not tighten down on the rubber; all of the mounts appear to be identical.

Anyone have a similar problem? What did you do about it?

In addition, can anyone tell what the design length of the sleeves should be?

It looks like I am going to end up completely re engineering these things.

I have the cab and rad mounts from D.C. and I think I had to trim the sleeves because as you found out they are too long.I was going to tighten all my mounts this weekend so I'll let you know what I had to do.Jerry

If this is a consistent problem DC should be contacted and told what going on. That way they can contact the manufacture and get the proper adjustments made.

Not unless DC doesn't care what quality of reputation they want to carry.

They have been contacted. I'll report when I hear back. They are the manufacturer, at least the bushings have "DC" in them.

That sucks when you get stuck with issues like what you got. Its even worse when you have to spend your time modifying the new parts you just spend good money on.

I have a set of mounts from LMC. The box says 'Made in Thailand'.
As for instructions, THEY AIN'T NONE!
Any body have a diagram as to how these things go on?

Looks alot like the D-C mounts.

You can see part of the problem, note that the bolt is not threaded all the way to the bottom of the sleeve.

Before I install them it might be worthi it to run a die down the bolt to the depth of the bushing.

Thank you for your input. The instruction sheet is easy to fix, but the bolts and tubes came from Ford and this will take some research on their part.

I have not really dealt with this yet. My plan is to take a look at the bolts themselves, I may reuse the factory bolts since they are by and large in good condition.

Finally got a chance to mess with this.

Simply replacing the Radiator support mounting bolts solved the problem there.

On the front cab mounts, I had to reuse the factory bolts and shorten the sleeve to 1.60 inches. (it was roughly 1.90)

Not sure about the back cab mounts yet since I haven't moved to that step of the project.

I bought a Dennis Carpenter kit too, and had problems with the bolts.

Ended up cleaning up the old ones and reusing them. Here is a photo of the kit bolt and the original bolt I took out. Hope this helps someone in the future.
