Swaping in a 75 9" to 67 F-250

Post by MadMaxetc »

OK I know I have to move the spring pertches and shock mounts 2" in on each side. The problem is with the replacement spring pertches. they are 2.5" wide and the 67 F-250 springs are 2" wide. Is is OK if there is an extra .25" on each side? I was going to make a steped plate to attach the u-bolts to. I think this will limmit the chances that they will shift or twist.

What do you guys think??

Dan that might work if you went top and bottom or 1/4" down both sides . But just on the top leaves only your center bolt head on the bottom in your spring perch with a 1/4" to move sode to side . I understand your thinking and in most cases it's front to back movement that would shear a center bolt or(tie bolt)head I wouldnt buy trouble . If your going to have to move them in any way why not try and locate a set of 2" perched or salvage the one off the old housing. You could even notch the 2-1/2" perches a 1/4"in to accept the 2" u-bolts . just my 2 cents

Why not just cut the spring perches off the '67 and re-use them? You can use a cutoff wheel to cut the welds without damaging the perches.

Well the Dana 60 coming off is sold, so I can't pirate off of it.

I could cut the new pertches and remove the 1/2". I just didn't want to start cutting before I got a little better info.

So I could cut the new 2.5" pertches in half and weld them together to 2". I like this Idea because it is some easy fabricating. :)

You guys see any problems with this plan?

Thanks Again Guys,
Dan

Well if you're talking about sectioning the wider perch to fit, keep in mind that the very center of the perch has the locating hole for the center spring bolt. Take some very careful measurements of the hole placement and diameter, since you'd have to redrill it once the two halves are welded together.
