I have a 3 on the tree. Why does the tranny make a squeeling noise when I put the clutch pedal in? It also grabs when I let it out. Any ideas?
I replaced the clutch, pilot and throw out bearing last year I did not resurface the flywheel but just did, and have not installed it yet!
Thanks,
Randy B.

The squealing when you push it in is usually the throw out bearing. The grabbing is flywheel or pressure plate's warped or the clutch dish is contaminated.

Thanks, I put a new throw out bearing in last year, maybe I'll replace it and see what happens. I just had the flywheel turned down so that should stop the grabbing. The clutch disc itself is clean. thanks again!

the grab also can be caused buy a worn bearing slide, you know the housing that the though out bearing rides on.
the squeal is normally the pilot bushing being dry, you use a bronze bushing right?
but if it more of a howl its likely the though out bearing.

Yeah I used a new bronze pilot bearing, new throw out and new clutch disc
I'll check the slide to make sure. It'll probably be a week before I put it all back together. Thanks! Randy B.

Did you lube it good before you put it in?

I lubed the crankshaft bore that the pilot bearing gets pressed into. I know the old pilot bearing was dried out because I had the tell tale chirp sound everytime I shifted. I really do think my squeal is from the throw out bearing. Just for the hell of it I'm going to check the bore run out and the face run out.

Some T/O bearings have a zerk fitting on them.
