I have a 1976 ford f-250 2wd 460 w/c-6 I was pulling a car trailer with a reg cab ranger on it for about 7 mil. after I dropped off the ranger and trailer and drove away, I noticed that my tranny was stuck in 3rd. I tried to down shift by hand and nothing and if I floor it, it would act like it was trying to shift, but would make a slight noise, kinda a gurgling sound. but when a speed for third it runs fine, and in rewind it works fine too, just only starts and drives in third.
any thoughts,

have you checked the vacuum modulator?

I thought about that but wouldn't that make the tranny shift slow and slip. mine wont shift at all, it is always in 3rd.

Mine did that after not driving it for awhile, turned out the governor on the tailshaft was stuck. Did a fluid change, crossed my fingers, problem gone.

Get it rolling at idle. Slam it into "park".
