driveshaft jackassery

Post by bobbyinpd »

Today I changed the Carrier Support Bearing on my bump. Got the front drive shaft all back together and in, but I cannot get the rear shaft to engage back on to the splines of the front shaft. Its driving me nuts as to why, I have done the same thing on my 58 bel air's 2 pieced drive shaft, but have never encountered this problem before. Any suggestions?

Already thoroughly lubricated. I always lube it up before I stick it in!

Ok I've tried filing the splines a bit, still nothing, I'm actually considering Averagef250's Idea. I jus want to get it done so I can drive my truck, i'm sick of the suburban

Is there one spline thicker then the others? Keeps the balance of the shaft inline if takin apart. can't remember if they did this with Fords. Check anyway.

Yes, look for a bigger spline that needs to be lined up. Make sure it's on both ends. If it's on one and no the other it might not work.

I got that figured out for the balance. I remember reading on here that the u joints should all be in line for balance. I have gotten it to go back together, but had to do it outside the truck so i wouldn't go insane. I should lube it up a bit more than slide it in deeper
