ID to a manual transmission

Post by jdconnel »

I am in the process of finding out why my speedometer is off.
I looked at my door code and it says Code A for the transmission. This would be for a 4-speed new process I gather

The information I found on the trans was:
On the casting:
C-96931-N (little hard to read) followed by a NP symbol in a gear, and an arrow above a 1
On the tag, I got:
C7TA 7003N FL 35
10 27 66 435

So. What is this thing?

You got it! NP435 is new process 4 speed. If you have a 4 speed F-250 from the 60's to the 80's odds are pretty good it's got a 435.

If reverse is to the right and down, it's a NP435. If reverse is to the right and up, it's a T18. And yes, "A" code is for a NP435 for a '67.
