Automatic Transmission

Hope you guys aren't to harsh on me for these questions. I'll explain as best I know how too. First my truck is still sitting at its PO location ( PO has been dead for several years) I get to go visit as much as I want but my good friend who has a car hauling trailer is busy till middle of May. So it is coming home soon, just not as soon as I would like. In preparing for the move I had to turn the truck around, this is where the fun is for me. In moving the truck I found out the emergency brakes still work, bad news is the transmission wich is an automatic doesn't seem to engage in any setting including park. I will try and find out wich transmission it is soon, as you can imagine I'm not to inclined to lay on the ground with all the animals in the high grass. The engine is a a 360 two barrel according to the vin on the title, and it looks like the orginal stuff is there. Any ideas why park doesn't work at the least, any help one can think of will be appreciated.

It isn't engaging in any gear? Sounds like the linkage. You'll need to get underneath and check to see if everything is still attached the way it should be. Knowing what trans it is will help with particulars of exactly how it should be hooked up.

Here is another question for ya, did you check the fluid level in the tranny to make sure it was properly full?

That would also make it not move.

Guess I need to give better information on this. Motor is not running at this time, was moving the truck with my Bronco and a chain drive come-along. Thats how I found out it would roll good in park and any other setting on the gear leaver. Soon as I get the nerve up to go in the tall grass with the animals, dang snakes I'll look at the linkage and see if I can figure out wich auto it is. Thanks for the imput guys.

Yup, count us the bolts on the tranny pan.

Also, stupid simple, but is there a driveshaft?

Yep there is a driveshaft, like I said I may not make my questions very well. Its sorta that I'm not use to having to ask these type of questions. You can understand why I was wondering why an automatic transmission wouldn't lock up when the selector was put in park. I'll do my best to get the transmission type in the next few days, once again thanks for the patients folks.
