re: HOPING to go junkyarding this weekend

Post by flyboy2610 »

Well, I went up to Omaha to the U-pull-it yard on South Q st. The truck ran fine, still not much oil pressure at idle when hot, but it ran fine.
I did not get the front suspension/disc brake set up I was hoping to find. There is a decided lack of dentside's in that yard. There were several trucks from the 80's, and some from the 90's, but only 1 F250, and it was a 4X4. I guess it wouldn't have nattered much if I HAD found one, since they have all their vehicles up on rims, one laying flat and the other upright in the center of the flat one. They put this arrangement under the rear axle, and front suspension! So you can't get it out even if you found what you needed! The forklift might be of help, but the forklift driver doesn't work weekends!
I didn't find any seats I like, either.
I did get a power brake booster and MC.

The booster seems to be in good shape. I also got the fittings for it, but left the brackets behind. They were permanently rusted to the cab! If I could have used some penetrating oil on them for a few days, I might have gotten them off.
But since I have a set of PB brackets any way, I didn't waste my time with them.
They came off a '68 F350, which did have disc brakes, but they were the dual caliper set up, and I don't wan't those.
But.... it DID have this! :D :D

They sold it to me for $11.00 and change!
It's dusty, and the motor bracket need repainted. I haven' had time yet to see if the fan works.
It does have a crack about 1-1/2 long in the upper left face plate.
Image
It also has a quarter sized hole in the top, just over the fan speed switch.

I haven't decide what to do with it yet. I may take it apart to see how well everything works.
I may decide to use this one and sell the unit I got from LMC.
Or, I may clean it up a bit and eBay it. I don't really want to try to 'restore' it if I decide to eBay it, because a purist may decide that putting it back in Concours condition may be more trouble than it's worth.
Decisions, decision.

Good find on the AC, thats now on my list too. The F350 brake setup is the same as the F250. What is wrong with using the dual piston setup? The bleeders were frozen on mine, but they came out eventually and the pistons work well.

Functionally, there's nothing wrong with the dual caliper set up. It's just that they're heavier, and a lot more expensive to replace.

flyboy2610,

how soon till you want to do the disk brakes? I have a good working st on the 73 but it is a F-100 so it has 5 lugs. You could have it the end of May if all goes to plan. $150 (has brand new (well 5k on them) pads, rotors and bearings)

PM me if you want them.

Thanks, Dan.
I appreciate it, but I really need something off an F250. The spindles are different, so an F100 set up won't work.
If I hear of some one needing some, I'll direct them to you.
