need opinions on flooring

Post by Blue Cloud »

I've decided to replace the carpet in my 4x4 with a rubber mat or polyvinyl mat, can't decide which would be best. The vinyl mat looks like it covers the intire floor and I am concerned about moisture accumulating underneath. Anyone have any experience with the vinyl mat or would the original style rubber mat be the way to go?

I bought the MIP rubber mat from Blue Oval Truck Parts and was not satisified one bit. I dont know if it's the same that LMC. I was told it was molded and cut to fit for the 67, wich it was not. The MIP was like rhino skin. It might have layed down if it was submerged in boiling water for a couple hours. Shop around

I am planning on pulling my seat out and doing something like a rhino liner. Haven't decided yet.

I'm planning on using truck bedliner on mine too. SEM brand is high (to me), but paint shop guy recommended it's the best and you can tint whatever color you want.

My shop here has an in house spray-in bedliner booth, so i plan on having them spray a nice coating of bedliner on some plastic backing, then i'm going to cut it and form it to fit the floor of my 72. The bedliner spray we have here is the rubberised type so it wil be easy to form. I didnt want anything permanent, just some added protection and noise reduction.

My oldest daughter used Rhinoliner in her interior and LOVES it!! If it's dirty, she can open the doors and wash it out with a hose...and it really looks pretty good! She said it also did a pretty good job of quieting it down in there too!

Thank's guy's, I'd probably go with a spray in liner too if I had plans of stripping the cab down, but thats just not in the budget this year. I'll be painting the outside in a few weeks and was wanting to get rid of the ugly red house carpet the PO had put in several years ago. He did a decent job of installing but still looks "homemade". Kinda leaning toward OE style mat, but haven't decided yet. Any more "expert" opinions, experiences outthere?

I had carpet in mine but it just held dirt & moisture.
I pitched the carpet and just put down bed liner in a can. It's not too messy to brush on and it also can be hosed out. I like it!

Keith posted some links for floormats a year or so ago. You might find with the search. I got mine from one of them. Seems like it was autointerior.com, or something close. I didn't save the receipt.
Anyways, I was happy with it. It covered the whole floor and fit well. Lots of trimming around the edges though.

I was thinking of bedliner but a rubber mat just infront of the seat it can be removed and then sprayed out and put back.

It should only require removal of the seat and the flooring and any dirt/rust/grime in there now.

Here's a link for O.E. carpet and O.E. rubber mats. I've been thinking lately about rolling in bedliner, then putting down a rubber mat for looks.

Back in about '90 when i was doing my 1st '72 I ordered the rubber aftermarket from JC Whitley and it covered all the way under the seat . Unfolded it (can't remeber if it had the underlay fiber on it or not) layed it out in the drive way in the sun for a couple of hours while I pulled the seat and old floor mat out . Installed it fit like a glove , was real happy with it . Of course that was a while back

My Cj has a parts store roll-in bedliner covering everything on the interior. Seems to be quiet compared to some I've riden in, and it doesn't look too bad. He even installed a floor mat (why, I don't know)
Easily cleans up with a hose.
An idea for you might be to strip the seats and carpet, roll on some hurculiner or similar, then put weathertech floor mats down. Seems like a lot of advantage for little cash outlay. And less worry about rusting under the carpet.

I had the floor in mine sandblasted then after welding in patch panels I primed then Hurculined it. The whole deal cost about $200 to do. Looks good but the truck is still immoble so I don't know about noise yet.
