I did a bad, bad thing.......

Post by cathynkeith »

Tore the rear end out today, broke the posi unit, may have too much power, after tooling around town doing a few burnouts, headed out to visit friends, hit the city limit sign and let her rip, first time wide open, ran about 5500 rpm and clank, vibration and pulled over, smoke off rearend housing, bad, bad noise when you back off the throttle, called the guy who built it and he sent a wrecker.
Something must have failed, these small tires let go way before the rear end feels the stress, I have yet to hit the rev limiter 6k mostly been tooling around and gassing it from 2k - 5k leaving black marks.

Oh well, this is the world of hot rods

drive it like a hot rod, fix it like a hot rod. have you thought about a 9.75 unit out of one of the heaver f series? i know the last gen lightnings used the 9.75 and i haven't heard too much about them failing even with kb'd or turbo'd trucks making 500+hp. just a thought.

builder thinks its a pinion bearing, maybe pre loaded too much since it failed the first time at highway speed.
