re: pinion angle...
i'll add to this when i get the ds dropped this weekend, but i'm betting i'm not that far off. i'll bet that it's a good ten degrees off at least. anyone wanna get a pool going on the actual pinion angle?

Man that does not look right at all. BTW what's your tailshaft angle? Should look something like this:ezernut9mm wrote:i know this is not very accurate, but it gives you an idea how far off the pinion angle is.

re: pinion angle...
it looked pretty extreme before the drop, and the spring perches look to be factory and unmolested in any way. before i even started i thought the whole thing looked funny. i have dropped a couple of trucks before this one and never had any problems, but as soon as i took out of the driveway on the shakedown cruise i knew that things weren't right. i am going to call a couple of places around here and find out exactly what shims i'm going to need and get 'er done!

I need to show you a picture of mine because compared to mine yours looks great . One thing your ears on the shaft or pinion yoke need to be straight up and down , and angle finder flat on the top or bottom. That way your are measuring the operating or working angle of the u-joint . the link I posted has links attached to it that show how to determine the angle on a two piece shaft and the procedure .

if i'm reading you right tony, i think we're on the same page. i'm going to drop the ds, jack the truck up and get the pinion side of the yoke level up and down and then just subtract 90 deg. llike this:
