e40d question

Post by tybob81 »

Was there ever a e40d for a 460 that could be used with out a computer? Maybe the early 90's. It was the first time they replaced the c6 with od. I want to put one behind the newly acquired 429 I am going to put in my 69 lwb. It is not fuel injected and I don't want to pay $650.00 for an adapter to bolt the 429 to an aod.
1968 swb hydroboost, ididit tilt column, Saginaw p/s pump with F series serpentine, all led lights, Vintage Air and painless wiring. 393w, tko600. CV front suspension w/c5 calipers and gt500 rotors. Stock Flexomatic leaf springs with 01 CV 8.8, 3.90 gears and Auburn locker. Custom wood bed floor. Full frame off resto-mod.

No non-electronic E4OD (thats O D not zero D). Anyway, you can get an electronic controller from www.baumannengineering.com. I wish someone would make a manual valve body for the E4OD, but no one has yet. Oh well.

I know some guys that have used the bauman contorller and have liked it. If I'm going to pay someone $600 for a used trans, $1000 to rebuild it, and $500 for a controller, I rather just swap to a 5 speed.

Yeah, they didn't make such a critter, the "E" stand for Electronic.
The E4OD is a BPOS, it's best to avoid it anyway.

I usually agree 100% w/ TOF but I don't this time. Ford continually improved the E4OD from conception to end (the end for the 460 E4OD was 97). I wouldn't touch a 93ish E4OD for a 460 build, but I would gladly use a 97 unit. It was a good trans. The lightning guys know how to make them last for sure. For mild 460 (400hp/500ft-lbs) a 97 E4OD will work great!
