Which kind of rear locker is best?
A rear-end locker is on my to-do list. Which is the best? I'm interested in what you guys have been using and are pleased with, and what to stay away from. I have a '67 F-250 4x4 with the Dana 60 rear. As always, thanks for the help.

I am a big fan of ARB. On and off when you need it, doesn't break if you snap an axle (detroit), but I would look at your spline count on your axles... You may want to upgrade them too....

What you use the truck for and your budget are the biggest things to consider. If you tow or overload your truck lockers can be real harsh. You might want to go with a good powerlock posi instead. Stay far away from the trac-lok posi, but everything else is pretty good. Buy what best fits your budget and the trucks use.

I second the check your spline count question. True lockers aren't going to be the weak link if you do some heavy wheelin or hauling.
In addition to it's locker Detroit also makes a nice gear type limited slip called the true-trac. Has no clutch packs to wear out. Just an idea.

Yes, get rid of the weak D60 16 spline axle if you plan on harsh use. The 16 spline D60s are strong enough for daily use and can haul alot of weight, but won't hold up to hardcore use. Upgrade it to a newer D60. I beleave in full spools. The don't lie. But for daily average use the True trac is the one.
I have Power Locs in both front and back. They work great on solid surfaces but really suck on lose ground (snow, ice, sand). Yes, they do wear clutch packs over time, but are really easy to replace and not to expensive. You can also get agressive clutch packs.
Here is some reading for ya.

I'd have to double check, but I believe they have more than 16 splines. They are 4.56, if that means anything.

No, 4.56 was used back then in some Fords. Unless that D60 has been built. Pull an axle and take a look. If it is still the stock housing then it is a 16 spline D60.
What are your plans for this rearend as far as usage? Don't get me wrong with the post above. The 16 spliners are plenty strong. I still run one in my rig and I haul wood and pull 40' logs up hills. Never had an issue. I just don't take into places it doesn't need to be. I have a modified Toyota for that.
