Getting really fed up with Google

Post by spartman »

I have wasted about 15 minutes trying to find out what a staggered rear shock setup looks or acts like.

Does anybody here know or have some pics of how it works.

So far all I can find is that one shock is pointing forward and the other is pointing rearward.

DAMNED GOOGLE!!!!!

When I hear staggered shock that's exactly what I think of ...one in front of, and one behind the axle.

If I remember correctly many of the higher performance 60's mucsle cars used this set up. Big block mustangs, camaros, cuda's etc. I think it was supposed to help tone down or eliminate axle hop under hard acceleration but don't know the how's or why's.

Might try some mustang sites.

Here's a link with several articles regarding staggered shocks. Just scroll down past the advertisers section to see the article list.

If you can find an 83-93 ford ranger you can see for yourself, I think all of them 4 and 2wd had them.

its to help keep wheel hop to a minimum. the shocks are mounted in in front, one aft of the axle tube.

Don't ask Google. There are no sight there that are not submitted to them for inclusion. Use http://www.ask.com/ They spider the web and find many sites not in the major search engines.

Thanks guys.

I suppose this upgrade would be of very limited use on our trucks?

Perhaps on my Fairlane

Looks like I am gonna have to switch search engines again.

In the 80s Ford put dual shocks on some trucks destined for SoCal. The upper bracket fit the rivet holes on my 350 and 250. The lower went to the axle.

The replacement cost of 8 shocks keeps me away from the dual shock path except for racing.
