Rear Axel "U" bolts and upper pads for Dana 44
The axel tubes appear to be smaller than the 9" so slightly smaller "U" bolts would work better.

A spring shop can bend you the u-bolts. Check with Redcap and see if he wants to part with the pads. Read attached.

Thats an F250 which would be a Dana 60 wouldn't it.
This is a Dana 44 from a 68 F100 (4x4?).

I am sorry, I didn't even think about you needing that stuff. I will look around for the pads but I am pretty sure they are gone. I hope this will help you on the u-bolts.
From what I read it looks like the reference number would be
C8TZ.5705.B (f-100 dana 44)shows the following
A=3.38" B=8.75" C=2.00"
--------------------------------------------
compared to the f-100 dana 60 style
C8TZ.5705.C
A=3.69" B=8.75" C=2.50
-------------------------------------------------------------
Both of these numbers are listed for F-100 4X2 Dana rear axles and both
applications listing u-bolt part numbers for with aux. spring
there is no mention of a u-bolt for w/o aux.spring in these applications
---------------------------------------------------
A measurment =inside width
B measurment = inside total length
C measurment = thread length

re: Rear Axel "U" bolts and upper pads for Dana 44
Cool, if you would not mind looking that would be great.
I have to go look at the pads for the 9" but now that I think of it, I think that the stock ones might be slotted. I will measure then if the rain lets up long enough today.
I was planning on this being a temporary installation while I build the 9" but since all the disposable income is being diverted to the bike; it may have to serve a bit longer than planned.

re: Rear Axel "U" bolts and upper pads for Dana 44
Robert
I'm still looking. I have a total of 4 locations they can be (3 different home places or the dump)--2 more home locations to check.
In the mean time I will share what I have found from the parts books with you. First the Dana 44 you have was from a 68 or 69 F100 2wd short box truck not 4x4. I can only find this Dana 44 listed in the 68 and 69 F100 2wd rear susp. chart. So this research is valid for model year 68 and 69 trucks ONLY. This rear axle could very well have been used on later years in the F100's but the catalog I referenced this info does not go later than 69. Rear spring seat cap part number C8TZ.5796.A is listed for F100 2wd with Dana 44 axle with u-bolt part number C8TZ.5705.B and is also listed for the F100 2wd with Dana 60 trucks with the C8TZ.5705.C u-bolt number. Both of these u-bolt numbers and specs. were mentioned in a previous post. Correct u-bolt for the Dana 44 F100 2wd would be the C8TZ.5705.B specs.(this size and number should be what you need)
This same rear spring seat cap number (C8TZ.5796.A) is also listed as being used for all the 68 and 69 F250 2wd trucks and( I believe these were all Dana 60's) using the u-bolt number C8TZ.5705.C which is the same u-bolt number the F100 2wd Dana 60 trucks have. So long story short the Rear spring seat cap should work for both Dana 44 and Dana 60 axles in the 68 and 69 2wd Ford F100 and F250's(must be from a 2wd). Maybe this will help narrow the search for used parts?

re: Rear Axel "U" bolts and upper pads for Dana 44
Sweet that helps.
I was otherwise occupied today, but your finding that the upper pads interchange between 60 and 44 jives with my finding that the 9" holes are slotted to a small degree. It also means that the pads from redcaps F250 may work if he's willing to sell them..
If you can't find the pads would you mind checking the book for a 72 F-100 long bed 2wd with a 9" and see if the numbers for the pads might be the same?
I can probably get a set of bolts made trough my freinds at the Pontiac dealer for a good price. Landrum says they can make them
If looks like a trip to the pull a part may be inorder.

re: Rear Axel "U" bolts and upper pads for Dana 44
Robert up to this point I didn't look any applications up with a 9 inch? Are you talking about the existing caps from your truck? Is the bolt spacing close on these?jives with my finding that the 9" holes are slotted to a small degree
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 70-72 F100 2WD numbers and specs. look as follows
u-bolt DOTZ.5705.B (WITH AUX SPRING) use DOTZ.5796.B cap
u-bolt DOTZ.5705.A (W/O AUX SPRING) use DOTZ.5796.A cap
---------------------------------------------
u-bolt specs. DOTZ.5705.B A=3.89" B=8.84" C=2.50"
u-bolt specs. DOTZ.5705.A A=3.84" B=6.90" C=2.00"
I assume these are 9-inch applications. It doesn't come right out and say what rear axle type it is just broke down by truck gvw and spring load capacity

re: Rear Axel "U" bolts and upper pads for Dana 44
I'll have to crawl under there tomorrow with a caliper. It rained all day today and the truck is out in the rain. So I worked on the motor.
But yes the existing pads seem to have enlongated holes. Not by a lot, but maybe enough to work.
I would rather have the right ones though, since I'm going to be putting over 400HP to it.

re: Rear Axel "U" bolts and upper pads for Dana 44
Update.
I got this form Eaton Spring:
Dana
Tube diameter 2.762, Tube bottom to top of spring pad on axel 3.536
9"
Tube diameter 3.117, Tube bottom to top of spring pad on axel 3.538
Spring thickness 1.830
I have to crawl back under and measure the diameter of the U bolts I forgot that.
I got this form Eaton Spring:
So I measured the two axels and got this:Robert,
We can bend you some u-bolts. I will also need the rod diameter, 1/2, 9/16,
or 5/8. Also a 9" rear end takes 3 inch wide u-bolts and you have listed
3.38 can you measure the sizes you need? Once this u-bolts are bend they are
not returnable. They will cost between $8.00 and $11.00 each depending on
the sizes.

re: Rear Axel "U" bolts and upper pads for Dana 44
Update:
Got new ones made by Eaton Detroit Spring. They Measure 2.75x8 on 9/16 rod.
They work fine, if I was going to change anything I'd make them a bit shorter. (maybe an inch.) But they leave plenty of room for shims or traction bars.
The upper plates I just hut with a carbide burr hard enough to clean the rust. The holes are slotted and were punced with a press, so all I really did was clean the rust and flash off of them.

Glad to hear you now have some bolts. I'm sure glad you measured the tube first. Sorry I quess the 3.38 measurment I found in the catalog for the Dana 44 rear would have been a little large. I sure try to make sure what I post is correct? I'm blaming the book on this one

re: Rear Axel "U" bolts and upper pads for Dana 44
Not a problem, it looks like a confusing chart to me
There is no entry for thread size on that particular line, but it is grouped with the 3/4 threads. It must be HUGE! Also since its listed for aux springs, I wonder if it is an F350 or E350.
