I was replacing the rear drivers side brake cylinder and when I pulled the axle found one of the noises I've been hearing lately. The bearing is loose enough that it makes a ringing sound as it spins. It twirls around the axle but only makes contact half way around.
How hard is it to replace the bearing? I know it's a press fit but can it be tapped on with a length of pipe over the axle or is it a "have it done" item.
First time pulling an axle/brake work and being a Saturday I was hoping to get it done over the weekend.
Thanks

Yep. you can press it off.
Heres the quick easy way. Cut outer race with cuttoff wheel. Balls will
fall out. Slice inner race, taking care to not cut too far and score axle.
Slam cut with cold chisel and "BFH". Repeat. It will split and fall off.
Clean up good. Get new berings and collars. Get suitable size pipe at
local hardware store and using "BFH" pound it home. (inner race)!
Using this method you can do both sides in less time than a expert with
a press. Jake

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

re: 9" rear axle bearings
While I have the axles out should I just go ahead and take the 3rd member out of the housing and have those bearings replaced as well?
Thanks
