I forgot to follow up on this thread, but those are indeed small chunks of plywood. They each have a hole drilled through them to line up with a headliner trim screw.

Yep plywood on mine and has the clips and screws.

My 67 dates late 66 and DOES NOT have clips holding the headliner trim up, yet screws. This could be a chrome 67 headliner trim only thing. Mine has the plan metal white trim.
