NP435 transmission

Post by broke_okie »

I recently bought a np435 trans mated to a np205 tcase. I want to tear them down and freshen them up myself. I was told it is fairly easy and I am reasonably mechanically inclined. I have the scematics and exploded views but would like to know what type of bearing puller I should use and where to get one.

A big 2 jaw will do most tranny jobs, but you really need a good assortment of different styles of pullers. Worst case scenario, you tear into it and you need to buy the right puller to finish the job. That's how I've gotten all mine. I would suggest you have a press though. Beating bearings on and off shafts with hammers isn't always great for them.

I like OTC and Proto pullers they seam to hold up pretty good. Snap-on makes some real nice stuff as well, I can't afford it new, but all the snap-on ones I've inherited over the years are some tough mothers.

NP205 is simple as could be, just keep track of the shims on the idler shaft.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

Don't even mess with pullers.
Get a die grinder with a "cuttoff wheel".

Slice the outer race on both sides. Then cut the inner race, taking
care not to score the journal. One or two whacks with a cold chisel
and it falls off.

I got a nice 3 jaw "large" puller I never use anymore. 8)
