C6 Tranny Trouble
I need a C6 guru!!! I have been having a more frequenting problem with my tranny lately. For the first 20 minutes or so of driving the tranny will get in a series of slippage spells. I really have to baby the throttle and when it does slip I have to fully let off the gas for a few seconds and then ligtly apply the throttle or it will slip again. The confusing thing is that the fluid level is good, and the shifter linkage is adjusted right. The biggest things I can think of is maybe either the converter, or actuator is going bad. I think it could also be the band or clutch packs. But the thing is all of those parts are new, and the converter is a rebuilt unit. I dont remember off the top of my noodle if the actuator is the screw or push in style, but whichever the one it is it does have the correct sized push rod in it. It had set for about 3 and a half years with no more than 30 miles put on it during that time, and up until I got it outta storage and started driving it again 3 months ago though. Anyways, if someone could please help I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Sounds like either the material on the bands has or is separating due to the length of time sitting or the clutch packs are in the same shape.
The easiest way to confirm would be to drop the tranny pan and check for particles in the pan.
Similar thing happened to my brand X truck when I got it from my dad.

Check modulator valve. (Pass. side, rear of tranny, beside tailshaft) Also check for vacuum leaks on the hose.
Made my first million.....too bad it was mistakes..not dollars! Now pass me that crescent hammer.

the rubber seals all shrunk.
Some people have done this. Add about 2oz's of tolulene. No more.

As has been said, the band is only applied in second gear, so unless the slipping is in second, that rules the band out.
As long as no water has been introduced, sitting for several years should not damage fibers.
I would check and adjust the engine tune, then modulator. Make sure that the modulator hose is metal with only a short length of rubber hose at each end, and check the condition of the rubber hoses.
If you fully warm the engine before driving, does the transmission still act up until it warms?
I would then start looking at the valve body. Warming up would usually aggravate bad soft parts, but warm fluid would help sticky valves.
