Removing drive shaft

Post by el_guapo »

I'm trying to replace the rear seal of my C6 tranny. Is there a trick in removing the rear drive shaft? It does not want to come out.

try greasing the jooint between the two halfs first not to much though. also ther is a nut on that shaft that is sometimes needed to take loose to let it slide forward on the other splines. if it won't go after that put a big screwdriver or pry bar betweent the yoke and the ujoint and pry slowly away from the rear end. make sure to watch that yuoe ujoint caps don't fall off onto the ground when you do it.

The last time I went to pull a driveshaft, I actually had to hook up a ratcheting come-along to it...it was STUCK!

I have had some luck getting stuck driveshafts out with a 3lb sledge by tapping them just pick your spots wisely, and when you get it out use some never seize in the saddles
