bad wires?

Post by BigRedTruck »

in the time i have been driving the truck, i have blown two turn signal fuses and none of the rest have gone out(to my knowledge). could bad wires cause this, and is there a radio fuse? mine lights up but won't work...i thought i blew the speaker but never really looked into the other fuses besides the one i have had to replace.

The radio power comes from the same 14 amp fuse that feeds the turn signals. When you blow the turn signal fuse, the radio will go out too. The radio dial lamp is on a separate circuit with the instrument panel lamps that comes from the 2 amp fuse.

For sure bad wiring will blow the turn signals, I would first check out the back of the truck for some mickey mouse trailer wiring.

when i got replacements i got a higher voltage or rating...i don't remember what the guy said was the original one was, but i put a more powerful one in. will that do it. There is wiring for a trailer but i am unsure when it was done. the fact that the truck came with metal not aluminium bumpers leads me to believe that it is original because it was a custom ordered truck and the way i heard it those are better for hauling.

A short generally causes a high current and will blow a fuse. The higher the current the more heat generated in the wire. If high enough the wire can become an ignition source, i.e., start things on fire. :x Fire is not good. It will and can destroy things. I suggest you find the short or the source of the high resistance and fix it. Old, chafted wires, and bad connections, etc. all are potential sources. Start from the ground and work backwards to power source. Check everything carefully.
