re: Need some advise on a rear hub 1968 F250
Dude! That drum and hub looks like it met the business end of a sledge hammer. Repeatedly!....
*mental note - Dont ever piss off mnyman*
Tell ya what. As long as your sure you have a D60 with the stepped down spindle tube diameter Im confident enough that the hubs I have will work for your setup.
Ill spend this week end separating the drums from the hubs and box them up for shipping. Do you need both or just one?
You don't need drums too do you?
The shipping on just the hubs shouldn't be too bad but the drums weigh a LOT!
If your willing to pay the shipping Ill send them to you and you can decide what their worth to you after you receive them. Fair enough?

Mnyman,
I have those same hubs on my 67, unfort I'm still using them. I did want to let you know that bearings for that hub, are hard to find. National bearing catalog list them as no longer in production. So treat yours nicely.

Hi Wes,
Looks like you've got a nice truck. What all are you doing to it? How long have you had it? Thanks for the advice on the bearings. I was planning to use my original bearings as they only have 31K miles on them. Is it hard to find replacement races?
Take care.

Yeah, that hub lost the battle against the sledge. Note to self: Don't ever do that again!
Wes, thanks for the info. That is helplful. I hope you were able to cut and paste. That's a lot of typing!!
Sharkdance, I only need the one hub. I already got a replacement drum so just the hub please. Sounds good. I'll send $$.

The last time I ended up with something that looked that bad was when I tried to to replace 302 headgaskets after the miller family came over and completely missed one of the headbolts. Broke a head in half prying it off the block! Sh*t happens.
Not sure how much beating that hub took, but if you REALLY wailed on that sucker, you may want to closely inspect the spindle to make sure it didn't deform. I've yet to see a dana axle bend a rear spindle, but several buddies have bent 14 bolt spindles.

Good advice. I'll have to look close at the spindle. I don't think it's bent but it did take a licking.

mnyman,
Bad news.
I finally took those hubs apart and closely compared them to your pix again.
Looks like mine are more like the wrong one you already have.
Still, if theres any way you can make one of mine work Ill gladly ship one out to you for the price of freight.

re: Need some advise on a rear hub 1968 F250
I just ran a quick search on www.car-part.com for a 66-69 F250 hub. 4 pages of results and in some of the brief descriptions it even appeared
some of the places knew what they were talking about. Remember the Ser# split is F30,001 (Before) so if you find a place with a 69 ask questions and get measurements etc.... Good luck

For all this headache it sure seams like just replacing the whole axle would be easiest. ANY dana 60 from '72 or earlier will bolt in and even the 73-77 F-250 4x4 axle will work with some pad shims. $100 on craigslist around these parts any day of the week.

Yeah, it would be easier to just put a new rear end in but I'm trying to keep as much original as possible. Thanks again 4x4x4crewcab for your interest and help with my project. I hope I'll be as helpful some day.

re: Need some advise on a rear hub 1968 F250
4x4x4crewcab,
I just checked the info on my VIN. My production or consecutive unit number is D27366. I checked that number against the info posted on fordification's page "Decoding 1968 VIN Data Plate" and it appears to make sense. The truck was produced in Michigan in May 1968. That page shows trucks manufactured in May 1968 in Michigan had a number between D26,000 and D39,999. How does this relate to your research that seems to indicate that the split number was F30,000 or F70,000? I'm going to check out the link to that on-line part store you mentioned. I needed to get the VIN information to make sure I knew what I was looking for.
Thanks,
Mark

re: Need some advise on a rear hub 1968 F250
The split is in 1969 after looking at the Fordification VIN page F30,001 would fall into June 1969 production. Stay under that and then start asking the other related question. The VIN page doesn't show 1969 trucksHow does this relate to your research that seems to indicate that the split number was F30,000 or F70,000?
even getting to the F70,001 and the 70's started with G's
Good luck to you. You may also take the correct new hub part number and start calling the obsolete parts dealers. Some of them do not list there inventory on the locator. This website has a list of some dealers to call. Check the links or vendors section on the home page I do believe.
