Lwb to Swb

Post by theskytoucher »

Im planning on swaping from a lwb frame to a swb frame and using everything off of my lwb truck except the box. My question is about drivelines im under the impression that swb truck only uses one driveline. So in going from the two drivline set up to a single i need to gain a slip joint somewhere so im wondering how this is done? I have a t-18 four speed transmission.
Also about emergency brake cables how are they different between swb and lwb?
If anyone sees anything else that might pose a problem in doing this swap please speak up so that we can address it before i acually start this process.
Thanks in advance

i think but i am not sure that you might be ablle to remove the yoke from your transmission and just put the shaft on the splines. but i am probably wrong. the cables are a slight bit shorter on a swb. the one from the cab to the mid point will be the same. on both trucks. the rear cables should be ok which ever ones you use.

the yoke stays on the trans
then on the trans end you need a short piece that is a called a slip yoke, it has the u joint on one end and the internal spline on the other.the driveshaft slips into it and it attaches to the yoke on the trans with the u-joint and ubolts.swb dshafts are pretty close in length to lwb 4x4 rear shafts.not saying exact as i dont know the measurement. theres several different lengths of the slip yoke too, can help to make up or lose a couple inches depending on application.

It'll look a lot like this, though this one is for a 4x4, from the transfer case to the rearend.
