This spring I'm gonna replace the clutch, and am wondering if I should spend twice as much for a performance one than a stocker.
It's a 67 F-250 4x with a 300-6, only mods will be a cam, 4bbl, intake, and headers, and ignition. It has 5.13 gears, 4 speed w/ granny low, and will have 37-38" tires. And it'll only see "light" towing and off-roading.
The stock replacement is only $150 with T/O bearing, clutch, pressure plate, and alignment tool. The "performance" ones I've seen are around $300, but I don't think I need one.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!!

A 72 F-250 Hi-Boy "project" ( that means sitting untouched for 3 or so years)
And a little 94 F-150 Flareside, 7" higher and 35's...

with those gears you will want the biggest diameter clutch available for the 6. FE has both 11 and 12 inch, not sure about the 6 . the more surface you have, the less likely for slippage in torque situations.
i would be more inclined to use a heavy duty than a performance clutch for 4x4 and towing.

FE's cannot use a 12" clutch, 11" is the biggest that will fit. LUK makes a real good clutch. The last several clutches I've done I've used LUK and I've mail ordered them from carolina clutch. The guy there isn't the best at the older applications, so ask him to make 100% sure he is sending the right parts. The prices can't be beat though.
I'd expect to spend $120 or so for a heavy duty LUK clutch for a 300 shipped to your door.

FE's CAN use a 12" clutch, they just didn't from the factory.
Centerforce, McCleod, and other performance companies sell them, and yes, they WILL fit inside the truck bellhousing.
