Front brakes grabby?

70 F250 2WD P/S P/B LWB
Brakes are new all the way around. (drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, springs, master & booster)
Brakes are bled and adjusted. No leaks, no obvious issues.
Truck stops evenly at all speeds and any weather. (dry, rain, hot, cold) even under panic stops.
When I drive my truck daily, I have no issues at all with the brakes.

Problem is:
If I let it sit for more than a day or two, (like over an extended holiday week end) the front brakes are really grabby for the first mile or two. To the point of locking up the front brakes even on a normal stop.
The problem completely goes away after the first couple of stops. And does not come back again unless the truck sits for more than 2-3 days.

Any thoughts?

It's caused from flash rust on your brake drum surfaces, which will get scrubbed off after the first couple of stops. Once the flash rust is cleaned off and you're back down to clean metal, they work like they're supposed to. Not much you can do about it, except move to the Sahara or some other arid environment. ;)

Thanks for the reply.

I had thought of that. But figured that if "flash rust" were the cause then it would be cleaned off the braking surface much quicker than the first few stops I made.
I figured that it would be gone by the first time I hit the brakes backing out of the driveway. And not be so violently grabby the first few stops after that.
You must be right. Because nothing else explains the issue better. But I still will pull the drums and re-inspect everything first chance I get. (in a week or two) and report my findings here.

just spray some WD-40 on them to prevent the rust! :lol: J/K

anyways, one thing you can do is 'ride' the brakes lightly before you need them. Much like you would if you needed to dry the brakes off after going thru a puddle.

WD40 :lol: Good one. Sad thing is, I know people who would actually try that. :roll:

As for "riding the brakes". Yea, I tried that one too. Its a good two blocks down the street from my house before I have to 'use' my brakes and I tried riding them that whole distance before using them for a complete stop. Seems like that would clear em off before then, but it doesn't seem to make much difference until I make a couple of good hard stops. Until then, the fronts grab hard enough to lock up even with light pressure on the pedal.
I know their adjusted evenly because in normal circumstance's they stop just fine, but it never seemed to be like this before the rebuild.

Maybe I just got some crappy brake linings or my truck is trying to tell me she needs to be driven every day. (Remember the brakes dont act up unless I let it sit for more than a couple of days)

Yeah we have had the same problem with all of our drum brake vehicles. I also had something similar with water on my drum brakes on my 64 Nova.
1969 Ford F-100. 302 4 barrel, C4 auto, 9in 3.50 open rear, headers, power steering, Turq/wht, Under restoration. In other words, in a million pieces!!!

There is no Replacement for Displacment!!!
