There is no such thing as a 3.11:1 gear ratio.

http://www.fordification.com/rearends-ford2.htm

The first three numbers on the second line is the ratio. What you reported as '50 8' is probably actually '3 50'(the first number is missing?). 'WDM-T' is a 3.50-geared non-locking 9" rearend.

ok sorry forgot how to read them. Atleast i got non locking 9"

i was thinking though that the 3.11 was odd but was sure that was axle code. Turns out to be plant code wonder what plant is 311A?

Yes, thanks Keith for the come back I took a real good look at the #s again it is a 3 0 sure looked like a 5 the first time. My guess then the other #s the 8 will be the month and the 7 the year and the 311A the plant it was manufactured any guess on that one?
again this is how it reads.
1st. line WDM-T 9ED
2nd. line 3 0 8 7 311A

It looks to me like the date code is on the first line of your tag, where the diagram on the above-linked page shows it on the second line. The date code in your case would be the '9ED' which would tranlate to the fourth week (D) of May (E), 1969.

Can you post a pic of your tag? What you're showing on the second line doesn't jive with my reference materials. (If you've got a flatbed scanner, those tags scan really nicely.) ;)

Ah-hah! See, there IS a '3' in the first position of the second line. That '3 50' is your gear ratio (assuming the tag is original to the rearend). The date code as I stated above is correct. As for the rest of the digits on the second line, I'm not sure...I've never seen one like that. I'm sure the plant code is in there somewhere, but I wouldn't know how to decipher that...not that it really matters, does it? ;)

Yes, the 3 was hidden behind the nut that held the tag befor removing the tag all i could see was the 5 and that threw me off. As for the rest it does'nt really matter only that it did'nt look the same as the one in the diagram.
