Clutch Rebuild

Post by ScottVA »

I am new this is my first post. I need help, I am a novice mechanic, I can accomplish most simple mechanical stuff, changing alternators, etc...

What I really need is a HOW TO for a clutch rebuild for a 1971 Ford F100 truck with a 360 engine.

and More I would really like to find a good Book on, rebuilding and restoring my truck. If any one can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it...

to replace the clutch you must remove the transmission and the bellhousing. then you remove the pressure polate and clutch disc. you can also replace the flywheel at the same time if it is bad. putting it back together you will want to use a clutch lineup tool. this make reinstallation of the transmission easier because it has to go itno the clutch disc and the pilot bearing at the same time.

that is the basics of replacing one.

book: chilton has them haynes makes one factory books can sometimes be found on ebay as well as the book on cd. there is a guy name steve ____ that wrote a book on rebuilding the fe engines also.

your local parts store would be a good start as to where to look for parts.

The book fordman was referring to is How to Build Ford Big Block Engines by Steve Christ. You can get it at Barnes & Noble or online at Amazon. I think it's 20 bucks or so. It is an excellent resource for your engine work and it touches upon the clutch.
