Weight of Hood, etc

Post by jor »

Hee's the deal. I want to ship a hood and a radiator support. Anyone know what they weigh? I can probably get close on the rad supp on my bathroom scale but the hood? Thanks.

Here's an idea,Jor.....Stand on the bathroom scale, then pick up the hood and see how much more you weigh...If it ends up breaking the scale, you never heard it from me :D

It's the picking up the hood that is the problem. It's too bulky and awkward for one person. The rad supp is easy but the hood is another story. I'm hoping that it's not much more than 70#. I'll let you know.

i picked up my hood myself many times and actually took it off the truck alone. not smart, but doable.

can't you guys see his age is a 100. you guys trying to hurt him, just kidding. it would be hard to read the scale holding onto a hood. there must be a place with a large scale, but the only place i can think of right now is the race track.

I'm sorry, but I got this mental picture of a person standing on a scale with a hood held up. Even if you could do it, your nuts would probably be covering the readout.

He he... not bad, Lee. Another problem could be wind. I can just see myself being swept up and out of my driveway, hanging on desperately to my hood rather than surrender it to destruction. Might be able to do some directional flying come to think of it and come in for a soft landing.

Do you have a scale you can hand up and hang the scale on?

I'm planning on spending the day in the shop tomorrow, moving things around again and getting set up to tear into the new '67 F250. I bought a bathroom scale specifically for weighing car/truck parts...I'll throw a hood on it and let you know.

Ah, perfect timing. I have a bathroom scale but I don't think it is accurate. Thanks, guys.

I got the weights I was looking for. SwissRanger already had them. They are:

Hood: 78 lb (35.4 kg)
Radiator Support 31.4 lb (14.2 kg)

Hey Keith its sounds like a new page to add to the website. Parts Weights. Could help out those that are shipping parts here and there.
