Few driveline questions...

Post by mjhaltom »

I have a 390 that I am swapping into my 71 F100. I scored a T18 from a '73 F250 along with crossmembers and bellhousing. My current setup is a 240 with the three speed on the coulmn. What parts if any am I leaving out? I have

The engine
bellhousing
clutch assembly
transmission
motor mounts
crossmember
bigger coil springs from a 390 truck
driveshaft

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. What problems do you
anticipate? This will be my first engine swap.

only thing i can think of is-

V8 gas pedal, and linkages that bolt to manifold

you may have to modify the frame for the tranny crossmember

your cross member may not work however before yopu invest in another one be sure to turn the crossmember 180 degrees it might work then, when I took my 435 out and put my c6 in all I had to do is rotate my crossmember 180 degrees taadaa perfect fit

Fab your own throttle linkage like I did from the pedal to the carb with 2 heim joints and a piece of bar stock, no need for the screwy factory linkage CF!!!

Don't forget to move your engine stands on the cross member. If i remember right the sixes are different from the V-8's. You will need to move them. Otherwise you'll never get that 390 in the mounts.
I don't remember to which position, maybe someone else can chime in and let you know.
