The wire plug is for your neutral/backup light switch. The cable has to
be hooked up or it can ruin the tranny quick.

I put an early 90's model AOD out of a GT mustang in a 66 longbed a few years ago and never hooked up the wires, they are just that, the neutral safety and reverse light. The 66 did not have reverse lights and I always remembered that it would crank up in any gear.I drove the truck for quite a while with no problems.I fabricated a L shaped bracket that was mounted on the left rear carb stud-2 barrel-and ground a small screw flat on the head to snap the throttle valve cable into.Set the cable with some slack of course untill full throttle is applied to pull on the cable.I still have the trans and will try to find the bracket I made and take some pics of it after work today.

Here is some pics of the bracket, note the small notch where it bolts to the carb,I made it to fit close to the carb and cut the notch out to keep the bracket from pulling to the side.Sorry the pics are a little out of focus,I'm still learning the new camera. :D
