Thanks Flyboy=

I didn't see that listing. I'll print it out and take it to the junkyard with me. I think the best bet will be to look for a set of 31 spline axles that will fit my truck. There were some bumpside trucks that had them.

Anyone know of any post-72 trucks that had 28 spline axles?

Wes-

Tell me more :? Is this easy to do or does it require the kind of precision and tools one usually thinks of when toying with differentials? I really don't want a new career....

i think it would be easy to do. all you have to do is pull out both axles pull out the center chunk. remove the spider gears that the axles go into put the new spider gears in put the chunk back in the housing and put the axles back in. but in doing that you have to make sure the axles are the same length as your old axles.

it's very easy to swap pinion and idlers gears, if non posi. Only thing you want to do before you disassemble anything is mark all the gears so you can rematch the teeth. You must swap all 4 gears, I would keep the pinion idler shaft w/ original gears as well. Also make you you keep any shims w/ the gear it was with. Your old axles should fit as you will be using same housing.

Thanks guys-

It SOUNDS easy enough- I'll have to dig up a picture of what you are taliking about- but there's not going to be any dial indicator work or brain surgery doing this, right? I'll go get that 2.75 pumpkin and a 3.25 one for good measure and see what works best .

You definately don't see many 60's Galaxies, Torinos, Fairlanes or Mustangs in the upullit yards around here. You are lucky to see the dregs of a bumpside truck like ours....

I happen to have a set of 31 spline axles that will fit our trucks. Don't know what they come out of. I gave a guy 10 dollars for them and a posi 3.50 carrier to boot. I think I got a good deal.
