Shift Collar Replacement

Post by 72f100 »

Hey everybody,

It's been a while since I've been on here; glad to be back! Anyway, I broke my shift collar on Saturday and need to get it fixed ASAP. Two questions. First off, I have a good shift collar from a '76. Will that work? Second, how exactly do I go about doing it? I'm hoping it won't be too difficult. Oh yeah, it's a 72 f100 three on the tree.

Thanks in advance!

You have to pull the wheel/TS switch. Then it comes off.
Don't know about interchange. You gotta take the broken one off
first anyway. Then compare side by side. It's not very hard to do. I
did two when I was a teen. After replacing 2 of those bowls I put in
a floor shifter. 8)

Thanks.

I knew how to get to it, but from what I had read on some other posts, it sounded as though I may have to take apart the whole steering column or something crazy like that. That's what I was hoping I wouldn't have to do.

I'll give it a go probably tomorrow and let you all know how it goes.
