Need some C6 tranny help
I searched but if I missed it I'm sorry.
Here's the deal, I just pulled a C6 from a 79 econoline with a 302.
To put into my 72 F100 with a 302 and a C4.
It looks like the C6 is about a foot longer than the C4, and the yoke is different.
Is this going to be do able?
Has anyone attempted this?
I have 14 days from 10-29-06 to make it work or take it back.
Any help would sure be appreciated.
By the way I love the site. I've been lurking around here since I got the truck about a month ago.

Thanks Fordman for the quick reply.
I am pulling the C4 now.
I'll post up my adventures for others as I go.

re: Need some C6 tranny help
hey Clarko, thanks for the reply.
Yeah I realised I'm going to have to go back to get the yoke.
I'm also going to pick up another drive shaft from a F100 to shorten. Just in case I have to go back to the C4 set up I will the original. You think I should grab the flexplate too? Why is that?
Update: The C4 is out, it took me twice as long to pull the C4 than it did the C6.
Couple of things it looks like I'm going to have to do is drill the frame to move the crossmember back. Also the mounts are different I will have to drill the crossmember to attach the new mount.
Thanks for the help

Bolted up the tranny last no major issues. Now for the fun part fabrication: lines, driveshaft, and linkage. I just hope the tranny is good!

re: Need some C6 tranny help
Got a question.
Should I cut my driveshaft if I do it will make it about 25 inches from end to end. Or should I go with a one piece from another vehicle and cut it to fit?
Thanks

re: Need some C6 tranny help
Thanks Fordman for the reply,
I was wondering if I should keep the two piece set up or go with just one drive shaft. After the smaller drive shaft is cut it is seems really short, only 25 inches from splines to flange.
I wasn't planning on building the shaft myself. There is a machine shop where my dad works they will be welding and balancing. I do have to get all the measurements and find out what will work best though, as they are not auto mechanics just machinist.
Thanks for the help.

Yea, keep the two piece shaft. A one piece shaft long enough to fit your truck would be very sensitive to imbalance.
