Sorry I took so long to answer your question about fuel milage. You have to realize that I have a new crate motor. It is a 5.0 with fuel injection and that helps a bunch. My fuel milage from San Diego to Phoenix was around 17 mpg avg. I had about 200 lbs in the bed, 22 gal gas, and two passengers running 75 mph avg. Not great but a lot more power and smoothness.

I also have a 302 with fmx and 3.25 gears. Before the engine died I was getting @ 14mpg but that was on a 37 year old motor too. Good for daily driving and trips - not hauling.

fordxxx wrote:Fisheye, what flexplate did you use with your '70 302/AOD? I was thinking of doing the same swap and figured a 351/AOD flex plate would be needed...is that true?

Thanks
You need to use the flex plate that is on your engine now.The later model 302s and 351s are balanced differently and the later flexplate will cause a large vibration.
