Bent Rear Axel?
Hey all I have a bent rear passenger side axle. When I first built the truck my dad followed me a said the wheel was wobbling on the passenger rear. Ihave since replaced the old steel whels with new Ford steel wheels. About a week ago my father in law noticed the rear passenger wheel wobbling while driving behind me. the truck has a slight vibration at 65, that I think is a worn passenger king pin. I figured if some one can easily see the bent wheel, then I should be able to feel it. I have never been to far into a rear end. Should I just remove the whole unit and rebuild. All I know is that it is a ford 9". I dont even know where to get the axle. This truck is not my driver and this problem isn't noticeable.

If you know for sure that the axle is bent, you should be able to find one at a salvage yard.I would count the splines at the end of the axle on yours and the one you find to make sure they match.I'm not sure if they all have the same number on nine inchers in pickups.I think they have 31 splines.

Make sure you get an axle with the same number of splines. They can have anywhere from 24 to 31 splines on them, depending on the vehicle you get the axle from. You can use this chart to help match up what you have now.

Also, some salvage yards will not sell you just the axle, as that renders the rear end useless as an assembly.
Good luck. And do replace that axle before it damages something else.

I would check the rim out carefully first, also your tire may need a index
rotation/balance . this is the tech name for spinning the tire on the rim 1/4 turn if the first try didn't work you got 3 other positions, what it dose is gets the tire in a better location so it turns true. I just broke the tire mans code, I WAS NOT SUPOSTA TELL THAT.
Quick check pull the drum, use some wire and put if in the anchor spring on the shoe, to the outer flange on the axle turn the axle and see if the wire touches all the way around. if so it good.

You need to check out that axle and bearing asap, the only thing holding that axle in is the outer bearing. This is a press fit bearing onto the axle shaft. Bent axle will make excessive heat, and cause the bearing fit to loosen. Ever see a Ford car or truck sitting on the side of the road, with 1 of the rear wheels sticking a foot or so out from the fender ?
to inspect this problem, raise rear axle, support w/ a jack stand, try and move wheel up and down if movement is felt axle and or bearing have wear.
remove wheel and drum, recheck for up/down play. To remove the axle, remove all 4 bearing retainer flange nuts, and pull axle out ( slide hammer maybe helpful) If axle is straight and bearing is bad, any good automotive machine shop can press a new one on.
If you need to go axle hunting, remove your old 1st, take a good look at your axle tube flange and measure the od of the bearing as well as count splines. there are at least 3 diff 9 inch axle bearing sizes, by looking for axles tubes w/ same style and size flange it'll save you from tearing apart allot of possibles.
the ford 9 inch is a good strong rear end fixing yours would generally be less expensive then replacing it, less work too.

re: Bent Rear Axel?
It seems easy to remove and reinstall the rear axle. Just remove retaining bolts and pull it out. If I find it's bent I'll buy a new set from jegs or whoever. Thanks for the info.

I have a rear end your welcome to have. It is the Chicago area, you need to pick it up if you want it.
It is out of a 69 F250 Good Humor truck, so it is probably geared low.
