What is the difference between a limited slip and a traction lock rear. I have a open rear now with who knows what gear ratio, since someone has changed them before and didn't put a tag on. Just wondering which way I need to go, as I want to run 3.00 to 3.08 gears behind a mild 460 and C6 trans with a firm shift kit. ( new valve body )

A posi is a much much more involved installation than a straight locker. A posi will allow both wheels power while turning, through the use of plates and clutches and all sorts of complicated stuff :D . A locker will only give both wheels power in a straight line. Either are pretty effective at putting power down. My 460/C6 in a SWB 67 with an open rear end is rediculous. I cant hook up anywhere... Go with a locker or don't even swap in the extra power. The torque of the 460 will allow you to sit there and burn forever: bad. 3.08 or so sounds really tall though.... Might be losing a lot of low end grunt, depending on what size tires you are using?

The installation is the same on both a clutched locker and a true locking rearend. The clutched locker (Power-loc or Trac-loc) use clutch packs and allow slip to happen while not under torque (depending on how they are set up). The Trac-loc is more forgiving then the Power-loc. If you want solid all the time hook-up. Lockers like Detroit would be the way to go, but that is for thr real serious power freaks. If you are looking for something that is mild go with a trac-loc, Power-loc or even a True-trac. Check out this website for more in depth info.

I haven't but a couple buddies of mine have and really liked them. The only fear I have is that I have seen the Lockrites strip the teeth when used for 4xing. That was only one time. I have installed a Lockrite is a D60 before and it was really easy and I ran into no problems with it. Go on line and do a search for reviews on the Powertrax.

I am planning on getting a lock-right Powertrax for my 9" sooner or later. There is a PDF walkthrough of the install into a 9inch floatin around on the net somewhere also.
