I'm installing a electronic speedo, and bought the Autometer sender specified for Fords. It has a plunger-type attachment with a small crow-foot dealie (technical term) to keep in in the tranny.
But it ain't right. My current speedo cable attaches with a 7/8 screw-on collett. I called Autometer and they referred to that as "GM style" Ouch!
Further, they were awfully suspect about this, so I went under the truck again to verify. Yup, the screw-on male part (NOT a strap-on male part-am I gonna hear jokes about that??) actually threads into a threaded boss on the tranny.
This is supposed to be a C6. Anyone else had this issue? How does your speedo cable attach?
thanks.

My C-6s are the same way.

I was curious about this question too, so I asked over at the Ford Transmission forum...
...and was given the following answer by the forum moderator:FORDification wrote:Is there any rhyme or reason why some C6 transmissions have a speedo cable that screws on and others that clamp on? Was it by application or year?
Interesting! I just might have to add that to the 'Did You Know' box at the top of the page.Stuart wrote:A speedo connection with a clamp is usually found in a transmission with a long extension housing.
The screw in type is found in trucks with either a short housing or 4WD applications.
But the why and what for probably has the engineers baffled too.

Not sure if this will help your situation but I have a C4 transmission, 79 vintage and I noticed it has this Crowfoot hold down on its speedo cable. I will eventually have to try and adapt that to my 1970 speedo. I will worry about that later...
Good luck,
Keith

There's got to be more to it than that, like maybe it's a difference between car & truck trannys? 3/4 and 1/2 ton? Because the screw on kind is all that's available for my '69.
