C4 Tranny wireing ideas...

Post by Convert »

I am starting to referb the C4 that will eventually sit behind the 351W that will propell my 1970/71 F100. It has a 4 wire harness that comes off the shift mechanizm area. I assume one might be backup light but what are the others. The Transmission is a 79 vintage. I will probably dig through my manuals to see if I have a wiring diagrahm with C4 trans. Any one else been there - done that??

Thanks guys,

I should post some picks of my project because I will be needing assistance when we start re-assembly.

Hey, Keith
You're not all that far from me. Anyhow, that is the Nuetral Safety Switch and the Reverse lights. If you are keeping your truck column shift (assuming it was an automatic) you can do away w/ the one on the transmission. Otherwise you can use it.

That makes sense. The cab I am using is a '70 set up for automatic. I have not looked, is there a reverse switch on the column or will I need to use the one from the transmission? Lots of time to figure that out.

We are down to just the Frame and are changing out all the bushings and painting everything. I did get a motor off of a guy in Henryetta OK. A 351 Windsor all rebuilt and ready to go with Edlebrock intake and Pertronix HEI distributor. As soon as I get the Tranny rebuilt I will mount the engine - transmission on the frame and build the exhaust. Then start re-assembling the body around that.

My Son and I are doing the build. It is a 71 short bed step side 2wd. I have a 70 2wd longbed that is my parts donor. I am going to use the cab and the power steering. Maybe a few other small parts if needed.

Let me know if there are any good swap meets up that way,
Keith

i wouldn't try messing with it. if it works then it is fine. it is a real easy part to remove later if it messes up anyway. if you rewire it now it may not work after your done you never know.

Hey Keith, on the Auto Equipped 67-72's The Neutral safety switch is at the base of the column. ( I think even some of the early dent sides were that way because when I converted to P/S I don't rember having to change out my neutral safety switch when I swapped columns) So you should be good to go. Anyhow the sunflower state swap meet is the first week in Feb if I remember right and that brings people from all over the midwest. Anyways I'll post about it as it get's closer.
