360 Four Barrel?

Post by FoMoCo »

Hi, I acquired a 67.5 this past weekend and it came with a 360cid. It has a nasty holley 2bbl, and would like to replaceit with a nice holley 4150 390 CFM. Was/is there a four barrel intake that can be found?

I got mine from a junked mustang GT with a 390. It is the stock cast iron.
Fit Right on. I paid 50 bucks.

By looking at them on ebay, it looks like the pushrods pass through it. Is this so? Also looks like the valve covers over lap to intake. How hard is this to do. Im new on FE engines. Straight Sixes and SBF are more familiar.

Correct you are. Pushrods go thru the intake and valve covers overlap it. It's a bit of a pain to swap out, and yes indeed they are way heavy! Well over 100 pounds  if I remember right.

well, actually they weigh right at 75 pounds, depending on how much grease you have on it. ...but yeah, that's a lot of weight to try lifting yourself when you're bent over the fender.

Bent over the fender? the only way to yard one of those out by yourself, is sitting on the core support. :D

i got mine out but getting it back in place correctly was the hard part. sitting on the fender and trying not to ruin the gasket.

Hi All,

Can you add an improved carb without having to change the intake?
I have a 1971 360 with the holley 2bbl and would like to add something else. But I would also like to add it as inexpensively as possible.

Thanks,

Jeff

So long as you stay with a 2bbl you don't need to change the manifold, otherwise if you go to a 4bbl you'd want to change the manifold, all an adapter kit would do in that case is cut it back down to a 2bbl and that just kinda makes it pointles.

The only people who make a 2V (barrel) Carb Are Holley and Demon.
They Are both Available in 350 and 500 CFM. Most assuredly you need the 500 CFM.
The Demon is an "improved" Holley. It's prettier, It's slightly refined, and it's more expensive. Parts interchange, because as Barry Grant says, "Demon is based on holley". Besides it makes parts easy to find.

I say go with the 500 holley. I go Edelbrock, but that's 4V.

I understand that changing out the stock intake with an aftermarket requires removing the valve covers and then continuing on to remove the push rods. My question is, once the bolts are removed from the rocker arm assembly can you just lift off the rocker arms and then remove the push rods and install the new intake and than do everything in reverse order.

Thanks for your help.
