Can someone please clue me in on where to buy and how to install the lock washers that go between the two axle nuts on either side of the Dana 60 rear end in my '72 Ford F-250. I disassembled the existing rear end and the lock washers that are there look like they've been through a war. Worse, I can't seem to find any new ones that look like what's on the truck now. Do the new lock washer come flat, and you have to bend the tabs over the inner axle nut before putting on the outer nut? The lock washers on my truck look so bad I don't know what they're supposed to look like when properly installed, and my shop manual is no help either...
The lock washer I'm questioning shows up as Part #1124 on the "Single Speed Full-Floating Rear Axle - Dana (Spicer) 60, 60.3E, 70" exploded view diagram at http://www.fordification.com/schematics01.htm
Thanks...

re: Dana 60 Axle Nut Lock Washer - How to Install
i got my new nuts and washers from a NAPA in SoCal before i drove my truck out here to IL
i had to get new outer nuts and washers the prev "mechanic" had used a chisel instead of the correct socket (and pretty much shearing off all the tangs on the outside of the washer...found two of em when i pulled it apart ) a tore the hell outta the nut as well...
i adjusted the inner nut so it was a tad loose, put in the round washer (with tang thats fits in the keyway) tightened the outter nut with the special socket to about 40-50ftlbs and then folded the ears over outward with a small prybar when i had the right about of tension on the bearings and just a RCH of in and out play
if you cant find the earlier parts you can get the newer D60 setup that uses a nylon lined outer nut that has a sheetmetal pin the lodges in the keyway and presses into the plastic of the nut, with a spiral ring that fits the the thread grooves to hold it in there, the newer and old setups use the same socket (which napa has).
good luck!
Regards, James
