T-18 trans questions
Does anybody know what were the most common rear end gears were behind a T-18 in a 2wd F100 with an FE motor?I finally got all the parts together to swap out my C6 and I want to make sure I got the right gears for the T-18 right now my truck has 3.25 gears in the rear.

You can run any gears you want in the rear end.
What is going to be the primary use of the truck?

if yours is like my '74 was. the rear end will hop with too high of gears in the back.
I changed out the auto for a stick, and never did get that hopping out of the truck. always had to slip the clutch a little to get going smoothly.
My guess is the auto smoothed it out on take-off.

I mostly will be using it to run errands around town and occationaly towing a 19' car trailer.I just wanted to know what they came with stock and work out a good gear setup from there.I dont want it to hop while shifting through the gears and I dont want them to be to tall and be burnin up clutches either.

I'd probably keep the 3.25.. The 1st and 2nd gears on
the T-18 are pretty low, so I don't don't think you
would have much problem. Actually, with the T-18,
normal procedure is to start off in 2nd gear. 1st
gear is a non synched granny gear, and not good
for normal use. You use it to yank trees down,
or to drag other trucks around with their tires
screaming for mercy.
Mine has a 4.10 rear, but it's a f-250 with larger
tires, and a 300 six. With the V8, I doubt you will
have any trouble with the 3.25, and highway revs
will be lower than a 3.55/3.70/4.10.
The only real difference between a T-18 and a T-19
is the 1st is synched in the T-19. Also there are some
gear ratio variations among the models. Mine is the
regular ole T-18 with the low granny gear. Needless
to say with that 1st, and the 4.10 rear, I can yank trees
down, but I rev 3000 rpm at 70 mph... I'd rather rev
about 2400 or less on the road.. Wish I had an OD..

re: T-18 trans questions
I just finished the 3 speed to granny low 4-speed conversion and have 3.25 gears in the rear, I couldn't be happier. The truck will pull any reasonable thing both forward and reverse with no strain to the clutch and loafs along on the interstate.
