 Something tells me that my comment a while back on that E-bay truck with a nice spray-in Herculiner on top of dented wheelwells is something that you all aren't gonna forget. ;)

It's looking good! Of course it's hard to tell from pictures, but that bed doesn't really look that bad, aside from the one rust hole behind the right/rear tire. How are the rear bed mounts? I ask because most boxes I've seen that are rusted out behind the wheelwell like that also have rusted out rear bed mounts.

jzjames,
Dont worry, there will be flaws-a-showing.
Yes, thats the origional bed from the 70.
The donor trucks bed (72) actualy looked better untill I found a bunch of bondo in it. So I gave that one to Wideguage with the frame.
While the origional bed has its problem areas, its still pretty straight. (at least down the seams and sides)

FORDification,
Forget what? :dk: Hehe, was only joking.
Actualy, Im kinda glad you pointed that out on another truck. Made me pay more attention to mine before I flipped it over.

Yes, it is hard to tell from the pics.
Problem areas are the right side seam, the hole you can see on the right rear, and various dime and quarter size holes inside the bed on the floor.
The left seam and rear bed mounts arent rusted hardly at all.
I believe the holes in the floor and hole in the right rear are from a bad/broken exhaust pipe in the trucks history. Causing it to rust out where exhaust was collecting under the bed.

widegauge,
You know me, gotta do what I can. But sure could use your metalworking skills.
Glad to hear your workin on your truck again. If you need help just ask.
Got any pics yet? :)

Pix of the inside of the bed. (before and after)
Previous owner had welded a piece of angle iron between the front of the bed floor and front panel of the bed.
I guess it had rotted thru up there from collected water over the years. Its and ugly but functional repair.

Pix of left bed seam (before and after)

The left side is not too bad. Cleaned up pretty well with almost no rust.
The black stuff is Permatex rust converter that I brushed into the seam just for good measure before I prime and seam sealer that side.

Pix of right bed seam. (before and after)

This side was the worst. I know the right thing to do is weld it shut but for now Im just gonna clean it and treat it for rust and see just how bad it is.
The goal right now is just to get some primer on the bare bedsides and slow down any rust that I cant cut completely out right now.

So what is the correct gap on both sides of the bed and cab?

I'm ondering as i have yet another one that the bed has been removed. god only knows why they do and don't take time to reatrache it properly.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~
