Debating 700R behind FE
Ok guys I have been running this idea through my head for months now i finaly need to step up or shut up. I have the source to the adapters and have heard all the chevy put downs. Will this tranny run good with my engine???? Alot of chevy buys say I will never go back to the c6. I need advice seriously because this will be a 2000 dollar investment.

here's some reading for ya here.

I personally have bought one of the Raptor JR trannys from these guys, and it was top quality. replaced my dead 700r4 in my Camaro, and was a definate improvement over stock!
don't know much about the FE conversion, but I know their tranny held up fine to my 350/300 hp engine.

this place has an adapter for the aod to fe http://www.transmissionadapters.com/ford_fe.htm performance automatics builds aod with a different bellhousing to bolt directly to an fe engine. their web site is performanceautomatic.com the aod transmissions can be built to handle a lot of power. a friend has one in his car that makes over 600 horse power at the tires in his 95 cobra. has been in the car for quite a few years now.

GM has been in class action law suits over All of the auotmatics after the Powergrunt. The suits are still going on. My 89 GMC r35 Boom truck has a TH400 the forerunner to the 700 and the Low and reverse planetary exploded. Well the 700 uses the same parts for power transmission.gonzalo medina wrote:Ok guys I have been running this idea through my head for months now i finaly need to step up or shut up. Some of you have seen my notes about a TH400 I built but that was to solve a problem with a 750HP 396 69 Gymkana SS Camaro I built until my scattersheild came in to hold a Ford 10bolt toploader to the 396.
Every race with that TH400 was a nightmare waiting to happen.
C6s were real tough and until Chrysler got their racing automatics fixed there was an adapter to put C6s behind Hemis.

Ok so the 700r is out of the picture aod is the way to go. All in favor say I and the teardown begains. I really would like to punch my fe and have it respond with confidence. What kid of drive shaft mods will apply to this set up?????? I am really serious about this.

I'm confuzeded
never mind, my addled brain was reading aod as 'and'.
I say go for it! But would have been neat to see the 700r4 behind the FE

why do you waht the 700r4? for the overdrive? if your going to spend 2000 just get a gearvender. why have a 4 speed when you can have 6. plus c6 are really strong.

Well I ran a price check on the 700R today. They quoted me 800 without coverter so I rounded off to 1000 plus the adapters another 700 which brings the grand total to 1800 to 2000 tops. The gear venders I have seen range from 3-4 grand. you tell me.

3 to 4 grand? i think the most i have seen it 2500.maybe that install price. i would look for a used one first. they don't go bad and handle like 1500hp. what happens if the 700 blows up. i hsve had stuff like that happen and found maybe its better to spend a little more. i agree 3000 to 4000 is too much. i'll find out what we can get them for. a mustang we did had one behind an aod.

If you could get me some links to those gear venders I sure would like to research them. I just can't stand the c6 gearing. I have even considered running a 4 speed toploader. The key here is being conservitive. Thanks in advance.
