'63 F100 stuck in first

Post by loudandugly »

had a floor shifter put in several months ago (3 speed) yesterday had to drive 4 miles home in first gear for I could not get into neutral or any other gear. When I jiggle the shift lever, with clutch in, there is a thumping sound. With the clutch out, there is no thumping sound. :hmm:

any suggestions would be appreciated---thanks much

man, if it was a 3 speed column and stuck in third I would know LOL.

damn whatever ford did to lock the tranny if you accidently try to force it into gear or whatever. all i know is at random after being parked my truck locks into third, and sometimes while im driving stopped at a light. something to do with the linkages but u just gotta hit this one and it fixes it.

Hey layedout,

That's more or less what I did. I made a slight adjustment (more than usual) to give less free play on clutch, then with piece of wood and hammer knocked the shift rails to where they should be. Now I can back out of driveway and get into all gears. :drive: :woohoo:

thanks all-----loudandugly
