Transmission ID help

Post by REDNECKMOBILE »

I was at a local junk yard this weekend looking for a NP435 transmission and came across a 1985 Ford F150 with the motor pulled and the transmission that was exposed looked like a NP435 but I am not sure it is one because the floor shifter knob displays a 3 speed with overdrive pattern. The transmission was top loader with a cast iron body and an aluminum shift tower that sure resembles a NP435 but I have never heard of one with a overdrive, also the transmission had a tailshaft and slip joint. Any help will be appreciated.

That would be an SROD.

It is basically a light duty 3 speed tranny with an .80 overdrive gear.

I am considering putting one of those in my truck.

If you are using your truck for towing don't get it cause it really isn't meant to be a towing truck, but it will work find if you just drive it.

You should be able to find them under the 80's trucks.

Or of course ebay.

Thanks again for the quick reply, I will continue my search for a NP435.
