tranny question

Post by fourtss »

I have the old 4 speed tranny in a 3/4 ranger, would a 5 speed tranny from around the 90 model year fit in a 67 and bolt up to a 352 and if so would it improve fuel milage? :hmm:

The 5 form the 90 would have a smallblock/I6, 385 series, or diesel bell pattern. So, no, it won't bolt up to an FE. You'd need an adaptor. Also, what 5 speed it is makes a difference. If it's the light duty M5OD R2, the bell is 1 piece with the case, so It can't bolt to anything but a small block or I6.

I think the Getrag is an integral bell housing too but they also came behind 460s. Also the small block ones from a one ton are the better German unit and not the Mazda one.
I think the best bet might be a NV4500 from a Chevy or Dodge and then get a bell housing adapter from McCleoud
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.
