Converting 240 from manual to automatic. Finding a tranny.

Just bought a 67, base model, on ebay. Would like to swap out the 3-on-tree for automatic. Is there a bolt-on tranny for the 240? Cheers,

Yep anything that will bolt to a small block ford will bolt to a 240.

That would include a C-4, sb C-6,FMX,AOD

C-4 would be just fine for your setup.

The only one that might be considered rare simply cause they are an old transmission and not supported real well would be the FMX.

Not saying the tranny is bad, in fact it is one stout unit, just an older setup and noone really souped up their FMX's so there isn't a lot of demand for aftermarket stuff.

AKAIK There are no OEM's available but I have been known to be wrong occasionally, just ask my wife.

Found C4 rebuilder. They have them in stock for $1150.00, somewhat tricked out and dyno'd. Linkage is not provided, of course.

I've heard there good trannies.

No experience with one though.

Could also talk to your local tranny shop and see what they have.

Have you checked Summit and Jegs. They offer TCI's c4 for about $640, with $90 freight shipping. That is going to be hard to beat if you go looking in a junkyard for a questionable core then trying to find a tranny shop that charges a reasonable price and dose a good job too.

You will need to find a bellhousing (beware there are two kinds of common C4's, be sure to get the correct one) and a yoke too, but those are easy to find in any junkyard and are easy to check to see if they are any good.
