I have the engine out of my '72 for some much needed work. I left the transmission in the truck. I have a 2X4 running from the pan to the frame crossmember in front of the pan, seemed like a good fit and a good way to hold it up while the engine is out. After almost two weeks of not leaking, today I have a puddle (small, not even half a pint of fluid) of tranny fluid under the truck. Inspection revealed that it seems to be coming from around the pan gasket...it's kinda cruddy under there, but there doesn't seem to be any fresh leak above the pan gasket, or any leak anywhere else. Why would it leak all of a sudden? Is my 2X4 support ill advised, or??? Please help!
Matt

i may be wrong,
but i think that after about 100miles or so you're supposed to re-torque pan bolts. the pan gasket gets shrunk from the heat.

It could be leaking from around the torque converter. This would be a good time to replace the front seal--while the engine is out!

C-6s are like Harleys, they're supposed to leak.

Thanks for the input, guys. I just thought it was odd that it happened all of a sudden, and doesn't seem to have leaked any more since. I'll change the gasket and kep on eye on it, see what happens.

re: My C-6 is leaking
Seems like everything will leak when the motor is out. My steering box was leaking while the truck was waiting for the motor to be put back in. It didn't leak before I took the motor out, and it doesn't leak now that it is back in. By the way, I think the 2X4 is the tool of choice with most of us. I have the 3 speed not the C6, but I had no problems.
