Was wondering if the AOD from an 82 t-bird would be able to be put in a 67-72 F-series with little or no modification?

Also it is behind a 302 out of a 78 f100.

I know the 302 from a 78 will fit in the 72. But is it possible to install the AOD 3speed trans into the 72 outa the 82 as it does bolt to the engine?

I realize the crossmember may need worked on and the driveline of course.

But what else?

exhaust should clear, just need custom pipes.
engine wiring to convert to the new engine,
throttle linkage or cable need rigged.
radiator intake and outlets on correct sides.
treanny cooler lines to radiator.
as you mentioned, driveshaft will need atention, (shortened or lengthened, correct yokes on each side) and the X-member will probable need moved.
heater hoses hooked into the correct outlets on the 302.
Shifter will need to be modifed (i think) to work with the AOD.
lots of little things I can't think of right now, but nothing major , I don't believe.
In other words, anything is possible, just takes a lot of one thing or the other > time, money, and/or ambition. But it sounds like a pretty simple swap for the most part to me.

Yeah i'm hoping right now its just a thuaght.

it is only 650 for a set oif trucks one hjas an engine the other a tran both good bodies.

then i could leave the bird like she is and later get a convertable top for it. And fix both trucks. All some thuaghts.

ya it will work and won't be hard as long as you got the AOD But If you got the AOD-E (electronic) that you need the brain box and some wiring ta get her to shift right.

If I'm not mistaken, the computer should be located inside the passenger side kick panel. The box under the hood is probably the electronic ignition control.
